On January 8, the Foundation delivered our 400th Rock, Mineral, and Fossil Collection! Larry Lunardi, a director of the Foundation who was instrumental in starting this program in 2015, delivered the collection to Wells Middle School in Catoosa. He showcased the collection to four teachers, two principals, one librarian, and two classrooms of students, sixth and eighth graders.
As always, when these Collections are delivered by Larry and other Directors of the Foundation, students and staff are excited to receive these high-quality specimens for use in future science lessons. Larry, as well as other Directors including Frank Gagliardi, Michael Hale, Herb Martin, Kevin Werth and Dustin Ward, always take time during each delivery to teach and review with the students and teachers the rocks, minerals and fossils that are given to the schools throughout Oklahoma.
The Foundation has placed Rock, Mineral & Fossil Collections in only 20% of schools across Oklahoma? That means we have lots of schools that do not yet have a collection, and we want to continue fulfilling those requests. You can support this effort by requesting a collection for your school or educational program or by directing a donation to The Larry Lunardi and the Oklahoma Geological Foundation’s Rock, Mineral, & Fossil Collection Program.
